About eduKURa

eduKURa is much more than an online face-to-face tutoring space. We are a marketplace that facilitates the ideal connections and coaching, tailored to your learning needs.

eduKURa promotes autonomy and relationships. When teachers are free to personalise teaching and form healthy relationships, both students and teachers thrive.

Unlike other providers, teachers on eduKURa are self-employed and valued partners. We provide business and administrative support, so all you have to do is teach.

eduKURa is more than a virtual classroom; it is a secure and safe learning space with our users at the centre.

We are not a tutoring service. We are a one-stop-shop for matching students and tutors, with tools for personalised online teaching where tutors and students are our valued partners.

From Little Things Big Things Grow

The journey started in September 2008 after reading an article in the newspaper. The article was about the overwhelming number of infants abandoned because of the African AIDS pandemic. It was Heart-wrenching, I broke down.

At the same time, the Global Financial Crisis visited Australia and placed pressure on our AID commitment to the developing world.

In light of what was happening in Africa, I established cycle4africa and enlisted the support of the business community. cycle4africa became a vehicle for raising funds and awareness about the baby crisis in Africa.

Every dollar the project raised funded infrastructure for the Kazembe Baby Orphanage (now known as Terranova Children's Home).

In partnership with the Australian community, cycle4africa delivered financial support and hope.

All we really delivered was a bandaid. The fact remains: “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime".

I know that more than most people because my early years at school were troubled by reading and writing difficulties. This continued to impact my early working life with so many missed opportunities. But the story doesn't end there.

From cycle4africa to eduKURa

I left school illiterate. It was not until I met Bret Butler in Western Australia that things took a new direction.

Bret, a qualified teacher, sensed my struggles and offered to help me. He devoted the mornings to tutoring me. I humbly responded and attempted to address my shortfalls under the hot Kimberley sun. My literacy improved, and so did my confidence levels, paving the way for higher education. I finally graduated from pushing a mop to doing social work for a living.

In 2016, I found myself reflecting back on cycle4africa. Those images of abandoned babies never left me. Up to that point, several things had taken place. I married a primary school teacher who had a passion for children, and I moved beyond my own literacy challenges.

Forever remembering, "If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime." And so, Edukura came into being.

Although Edukura has been described as the Uber of education, we are much more. Our values, goals, and purpose set us apart and place people at the center of what we do
